【摘要】:Thistestmethodisusedfordeterminationofthecarboncontentofwaterfromavarietyofnatural,domestic,andindustrialsources.Initsmostcommonform,thistestmethodisusedtomeasureorganiccarbonasameansofmonitoringorganicimpuritiesinhighpurityprocesswaterusedinindustriessuchasnuclearpower,pharmaceutical,andelectronics.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftotalcarbon(TC),inorganiccarbon(IC),andtotalorganiccarbon(TOC)inwaterintherangefrom10to1000g/Lofcarbon.ThismethodisforlaboratoryorgrabsampleapplicationsandhasbeensubjectedtoaninterlaboratorystudyundertheguidelinesofD2777.TestMethodD5997canbeusedforon-linedeterminations.Thetestmethodutilizespersulfateorultravioletoxidationoforganiccarbon,orbothcoupledwithaCO2selectivemembranetorecovertheCO2intodeionizedwater.Thechangeinconductivityofthedeionizedwaterismeasuredandrelatedtocarbonconcentrationintheoxidizedsample.Inorganiccarbonisdeterminedinasimilarmannerwithouttheoxidationstep.Inbothcases,thesampleisacidifiedtofacilitateCO2recoverythroughthemembrane.TherelationshipbetweentheconductivitymeasurementandcarbonconcentrationisdescribedbyasetofchemometricequationsforthechemicalequilibriumofCO2,HCO3-,andH+,andtherelationshipbetweentheionicconcentrationsandtheconductivity.ThechemometricmodelincludesthetemperaturedependenceoftheequilibriumconstantsandthespecificconductancesresultinginlinearresponseofthemethodoverthestatedrangeofTOC.SeeTestMethodD4519foradiscussionofthemeasurementofCO2byconductivity.1.2Thistestmethodhastheadvantageofaveryhighsensitivitydetectorthatallowsverylowdetectionlevelsonrelativelysmallvolumesofsample.Also,useoftwomeasurementchannelsallowsdeterminationofCO2inthesampleindependentlyoforganiccarbon.IsolationoftheconductivitydetectorfromthesamplebytheCO2selectivemembraneresultsinaverystablecalibration,withminimalinterferences.1.3Thistestmethodwasusedsuccessfullywithreagentwaterspikedwithvariousorganicmaterials.Itistheuser'sresponsibilitytoensurethevalidityofthistestmethodforwatersofuntestedmatrices.1.4Inadditiontolaboratoryanalyses,thistestmethodmaybeadaptedtoonlinemonitoring.SeeTestMethodD5997.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
